The Hanger

Welcome to my hanger.  I have quite a few things which fly.  I will be trying to document them as I go.  My plan is to start with the least modified craft and work my way to my scratch builds.

This way I can get the most documented in the least amount of time. Come in, look around.  I’m interested in any comments you might have.  Do you have one of these aircraft?  Do you love it or hate it?  Any issues you have run into that I have not yet?  Recommendations?  Thoughts on new stuff?

So you may notice a general trend.  I like pretty small stuff that I can throw in the car for a trip to the park or even fly in the neighborhood.

My goal of course is to have something that I can fly in what ever situation when the time allows, rather then waiting for the time and weather and everything else to align just so i can fly something.  I also don’t want to spend a ton of money on a single aircraft when i know I’m going to crash it eventually.

So you will see a lot of Ultra Micro (UM and UMX) and a lot of foam board (cheap) planes, but there are a few others as well.

The following are my opinions just so you know my perspective, though yours may be different.

AS3X:  (or as I like to call it … wind scaling technology).  I love it.  I love it even more that I can turn in on and off from the transmitter.  The truth is that bigger flys better, however I really like smaller planes. While you can make planes smaller, you can’t make the air smaller.  The wind and wave of air do not change size to fit your scaled down model. So how to make that work. Horizon has done a great job (in my opinion) of using electronic stabilization to scale the air down to the size of the models. I love the analogy I heard on a podcast stabilization is like a little man in the cockpit flying seat of the pants to smooth out what you can’t see from the ground.

Spektrum: You may notice that most of my craft are out of the horizon line.  I think that generally bang for the buck (including support) Spektrum has a great thing going.  There are enough copy cat receivers to keep their prices reasonable, and pressure from other manufacturers to keep growing the feature set.  To be honest, I really got into Spektrum because of there line of micro helix, and then they started coming out with all the UMX planes which were to much fun to pass up.  While I love Futaba (I fly that on my Trex 500) they are crazy expensive for most of my little stuff.  I have Anylink for their line of TX-ready line but they were pretty late getting their product line out.  So Spektrum it is…. for now.  Radio envy is a bad thing….

I hope you enjoy
